Where to start, What to do, When should I work out, Why should I bother – Let me answer your queries.
There is no better time to start than right now! I’ve found that there’s never a perfect time and that life commitments always get in the way. Obviously if you have a particular goal with a specific deadline in mind then the sooner you start the more time you give yourself to reach your target. If you’re looking to have a fitter, healthier and more active lifestyle then I would recommend viewing it as a long-term, life-long commitment and there’s no better time to get going than right now. Every small step you take is a big leap forward on your fitness journey!
If you’ve experienced any previous health issues or injury, I would advise to consult your doctor before starting any new fitness regime and always tell your personal trainer or class instructor so they can advise you of more suitable or alternative exercise options.
What I would encourage you to do is to give a group class a go! You really don’t know if something is your thing until you try it. I believe exercise should be fun and that means you may need to try lots of different types, styles, venues and classes to really find the best one that’s right for you.
My classes are welcoming to new people and together we create a friendly, non-competitive environment. They suit all people, any age and at any fitness level. Just come along and give one a try!
Tai Chi is traditionally a martial art, but now is practised all over the world for its health, fitness and well-being benefits. It is a low impact exercise that works our major muscle groups but also delivers a sense of peace, calm and relaxation to the mind.
Check out the Tai Chi Class Page here on my website to find out a lot more about it or get in touch and come along to a class to see Tai Chi in action and give it a try.
It’s gentle, yet is perfect for developing strength, maintaining a range of motion, increasing flexibility and improving posture, coordination and balance.
As for most fitness classes, there is no requirement to wear the latest fitness fashion, although you can if you want to.
For my Tai Chi and QiGong classes just wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can move in and trainers or pumps that won’t slip off your feet. We don’t use equipment as all the movements are standing up, we don’t even use a mat.
For other group or one-to-one PT training I will bring any fitness equipment that we may use during the session. You don’t need any equipment.
Losing weight is a common goal for people looking into fitness, exercise classes or getting a one-to-one session so you are certainly in the right place. Now you need to ask yourself how much weight do you want to lose and how dedicated are you to achieving it – remember a balanced diet alongside a fitness program is the best way to get in shape!
I can support you by discussing your personal fitness goals, setting goals, creating action plans and motivating you to stick at them in order to achieve your target, and change your lifestyle to a fitter, healthier and active one.
QiGong is a system of holistic health exercises developed through Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is performed as a set of slow, simple, low impact movements that work and cultivate the Qi Energy in and around our bodies. It uses our major muscles, whilst we focus on deep breathing and on calming the mind. It is often referred to as a kind of Moving Meditation.
Check out the QiGong Class Page here on my website to find out a lot more about it.
I generally teach QiGong as part of my Tai Chi class but it is becoming more popular as an effective stress relief technique and one-to-one or one-off sessions can be arranged. Get in touch to give it a try.
If you’ve experienced any previous health issues or injury, I would advise to consult your doctor before starting any new fitness regime and always tell your personal trainer or class instructor so they can advise you of more suitable or alternative exercise options. All exercises can be adapted, regressed or progressed so that they can be best suited to your own personal requirements. Always pace yourself and be honest so you will get the best advice.
Tai Chi is a low impact exercise that is used for rehabilitation following injury and operations. It’s gentle and slow movements are a great way to start you on the road to recovery.
If you are new to fitness then you are not alone, we have all been there. It can be daunting walking into a group class or fitness environment where everyone seems to be really fit, strong, muscular or flexible but please don’t be put off. Everyone has to start somewhere and everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses so ignore everyone else and focus on yourself. Doing your very first fitness class is the hardest, but most definitely the most rewarding and who knows it could just change your life!
Always pace yourself. Any personal trainer or class instructor should be able to adapt an exercise to take into account your fitness level and ability. So let them know that you are new and they will always provide advice, guidance and constant support and motivation. Be honest so you will get the best advice and then exercises can be regressed or progressed to suit you.
